Colorado State Capitol, Denver

  • Colorado State Capitol: The Colorado Capitol is home to the state legislature and governor. The beautiful building was opened in 1894 and was built in light granite from Colorado. The gilded dome is one of Denver’s landmarks, and on a tour of the Capitol you also come up to the dome, from where there are stunning views of the city and to the Rocky Mountains to the west.
  • Larimer Square: Larimer Square is the name of a part of a street where 19th century buildings are preserved side by side. It was the city’s first main street, and once housed a post office and a saloon in a few of the charming houses that are now open as restaurants in this unique Denver location.
  • 16th Street Mall: This street is Denver’s main street and famous pedestrian zone. Here you can see modern high-rise buildings and office buildings from the city’s past history, and there are also fountains, cafes and shops on the long pedestrian street, which was laid out in 1982.

Denver Art Museum

  • Denver Art Museum: The Denver Art Museum is one of the finest art museums in the central United States. Here you can enjoy large and varied collections and see many distinguished works from the Native American cultures in North America. The Hamilton Building is also an experience. It was designed by Daniel Libeskind and stands as the museum’s architectural landmark.
  • Civic Center: This is Denver’s institutional center and the site of many of the city’s major public buildings. Civic Center Park is like a green oasis as the center of the area, where you can see the Colorado Capitol, Denver City Hall and several museums.
  • City and County Building: This is Denver City Hall, and this is where the mayor’s office and where the city council has a meeting room. The beautiful building was completed in 1932 and is located at the west end of the Denvers Civic Center. During holidays, the town hall is illuminated in the most beautiful way.

  • Denver Botanic Gardens: The Denver Botanic Gardens is one of the city’s lovely green oases. There are various gardens in the park where you can see a rich selection of plants from Colorado and neighboring states. Here is also a nicely landscaped Japanese garden.
  • United States Mint: Denver is home to the Denver Mint, the world’s largest coin maker. Since February 1, 1906, billions of American coins have been produced on the site, as you can see on guided tours. The building from 1897 was built as an Italian-style mansion, and with the architecture it is part of the experience.
  • History Colorado Center: At this museum, one can experience the history of Colorado through various themes. You can learn about living conditions in the state over time, different cultures and settlements and much more. There are also themes like Colorado Stories with fates and stories from the state.

Union Station, Denver

  • Union Station: Union Station is the main railway station for Denver’s rail traffic. The first station in the city was opened in 1868, and the first Union Station was inaugurated in 1881. The current railway station in beaux arts dates from 1914. After a major renovation, the building was reopened with shops, hotels, etc. in 2014.
  • Oxford Hotel: Opened in 1891, this hotel is an example of the buildings of the day in downtown Denver. The hotel is known for the bar, The Cruise Room, which is a beautiful room with Art Deco-style décor. The bar opened immediately after the end of the US prohibition in 1933.
  • Republic Plaza: At 219 meters/717 feet high, the Republic Plaza skyscraper was erected in 1984 as the tallest building in Denver and the state of Colorado. The high-rise building thus also stands as one of the characteristic buildings in the Denver skyline.
  • Daniels & Fisher Tower: The Daniels & Fisher department store opened in Denver in 1910. In connection with the store, a bell tower was built with inspiration from St. Mark’s Tower in Venice. In the early 1970s, the department store was demolished, but the tower was preserved and developed with homes and offices.

Confluence Park, Denver

  • Confluence Park: Confluence Park is a city park on the site where the Cherry Creek and South Platte River meet. It was the place where William Greeneberry Russell started looking for gold in 1858. Today, here are trails for walking and running.
  • Equitable Building: This office building was inaugurated in 1892, and at a height of 45 meters/125 feet, it was Denver’s tallest building. It had that status until 1910, when Daniels & Fisher Tower took the record height by 99 meters/325 feet. Architecturally, the Equitable Building stands in beautiful Italian Renaissance.
  • Trinity United Methodist Church: This neo-Gothic Methodist church was built in 1887 by rhyolite from the Castle Rock area. The architect was Robert S. Roeschlaub, who designed many other buildings in Denver after the construction of the church. The church’s interior is beautiful with i.a. some fine glass mosaics made by Healy and Millet of Chicago.
  • Denver Millennium Bridge: This bridge is one of Denver’s modern landmarks. It is a bridge centrally located in the city, and it is a gangway that crosses the city’s light rail system. The bridge was opened in 2002.
  • Paramount Theater: Paramount is probably Denver’s most beautiful and atmospheric theater building. The stage was opened in 1930 as a cinema, and both outside and inside there are beautiful architectural details. The facade is an art deco version of Gothic, and inside you can see a beautiful theater auditorium.

Black Hawk, Colorado USA

  • Central City & Black Hawk: These are two cities next to each other. They are located in the Rocky Mountains and were founded in connection with the gold finds in Pike’s Peak. The place was then known as The Richest Square Mile on Earth. In 1859 John H. Gregory found gold here, and the following year 10,000 lived in the town. Today there is a gold rush atmosphere in the street scene and many casinos that attract tourists.
  • Golden: The city of Golden was established as a gold mining town in 1859, and it was the capital of Colorado 1862-1867. The mood of the Wild West still prevails a bit, and there are many things to see here; eg the Golden History Center, the Astor House Hotel from 1867 and the Colorado Railroad Museum. Just west of town you can get up into the mountains to the Buffalo Bill Museum & Grave.

Georgetown Loop Railroad, Colorado USA

  • Georgetown: Georgetown is a mountain town that, like many others in the area, was established after the gold finds in Pike’s Peak in 1858; however, it was silver that developed this particular city. Today it is a cozy place that has a very beautiful location. A major attraction is the Georgetown Loop Railroad, which runs between Georgetown and Silver Plume with old equipment.
  • Rocky Mountain National Park: Located in the Rocky Mountains, this national park is one of the most visited of the United States’ many national parks. There are many good reasons for this, because nature is magnificent with mountains, mountain lakes, forests and beautiful panoramas almost everywhere. There are several visitor centers at the park entrances and they are great places to visit to learn more about the park and its nature and wildlife.

Mount Evans, Colorado USA

  • Mount Evans: This is a great excursion destination if you want to go high up in the mountains west of Denver. The summit of Mount Evans is 4,350 meters/14,271 feet high, and by taking the Mount Evans Scenic Byway you almost reach the top with a lot of beautiful scenery and views along the way; you can see Echo Lake as one of the highlights. From the end of the road you can walk up to the mountain top. Be aware that the road is closed in winter.
